Hello!

We’re Ana and David from Mexico, and How to Spanish is our dream come true. If you’re wondering how we ended up doing what we do, here is our little story.

Ever since I can remember, I - this is Ana speaking – have loved anything language related and since we met more than 12 years ago, David has heard me ramble about grammar and words and over time has grown quite fond of languages too.

Fast forward a couple of years after we got married, we had a dream to spend our time doing something we loved but we wanted to do it together. I knew my career had to be related to languages, culture and connecting with people, but David was working in finance in the corporate world, and it was hard at the beginning to figure out what we could do together. Eventually, we both decided to venture into the world of teaching Spanish online as private tutors. It was such a fun and eye-opening experience. We gained a deeper understanding of other people’s cultures as well as our own. We also realized that at the time there were not many resources or podcasts aimed towards intermediate Spanish students who were interested in the Mexican variation of the language. Given our problem-solving nature and that we both share a big appreciation for our Mexican culture, food, and language, it was clear to us that we could provide a solution that could potentially help many people. 

That’s how one day we took the only mic we had at home (not a very good one, I should mention), we tried our best to steady our trembling voices and recorded the first episode about weird Mexican habits. 

How to Spanish has evolved and grown so much over the past 5 years. What started as a podcast eventually became an integral Spanish learning environment where we provide more than just content and materials to learn Spanish in a fun and natural way. We are very proud founders of a community of students who love learning, who encourage each other and who share a passion to use languages to build relationships and experiences. We are honored and thankful to be able to do this for a living and to have such a fulfilling job.

Some extra facts about us:

David loves cars, technology, and grilling. Even when he will probably deny it, he’s pretty good at playing the piano and there is no human power that can take a guitar away from him once he’s started playing. He’s the official editor of our content and the one who is always looking for ways to improve our gear and sound quality.

If you’ve followed us for a while, you probably know that David is famous for loving tacos and talking about them any chance he gets.

Ana could describe her perfect day as having had a really nice breakfast with amazing coffee while either reading, writing or learning something new. If you get her started on talking about grammar, pragmatics, words and languages, there is a high chance you won’t be able to stop her. She’s also passionate about personality traits and loves thinking about weird questions that no one knows the answer to. She also enjoys dog training and watching YouTube videos about slow living.

We are living in Querétaro with our 2 dogs and we’re expecting our first baby. Nice to meet you and welcome to our community!
